GAC Hino S4401-E0331 Air Tank The air tank, as an air storage device in the vehicle braking system, has the following main functions:

- Energy Storage Function: The brakes, air horn, and other components of the truck require compressed air. The air compressor often cannot instantly pump out enough air. The air tank can store the air pumped by the air compressor and provide sufficient air when needed, ensuring the normal operation of these components.

- Filtration Function: The air pumped by the air compressor contains impurities such as dust, water molecules, and engine oil. When the air stays in the air tank for a short time, these impurities will fall to the bottom of the air tank due to their heavier weight, thus playing a filtering role and reducing the damage of impurities to the components in the vehicle's air circuit system.

- Pressure Stabilization Function: The up and down movement of the air compressor piston will cause the pressure of the compressed air flowing into the vehicle's air circuit to be unstable. The air tank allows the unstable air to stay for a while before releasing the pressure-stabilized compressed air, ensuring stable air pressure and reliable operation of braking and other systems.

- Cooling Function: After the outside air is compressed by the air compressor, it will heat up. High temperature will reduce the air density, affecting the storage capacity and being unfavorable for water precipitation. The air tank can cool the compressed air to a suitable temperature, making it easier to store and use.
